Treat Mum to a Japanese Afternoon Tea

It’s a known fact – everybody loves an Afternoon Tea on Mother’s Day, so we decided to jump on the bandwagon and do our own Japanese twist on it.

The three tiers will include a selection of our most popular sushi, frushi and desserts served with your choice of either Japanese loose leaf tea or sparkling sake.

Valentine’s Day in Japan

Did you know that in Japan it is common tradition for women to give men chocolates on 14th February for Valentines? Honmei-choco is the kind given to a boyfriend, lover, or a husband, most often prepared by themselves to show true love.

If you want to impress your partner for Valentines, have a shot at making them, our chef Eddie has made an easy at-home recipe


The Choc:

150g butter, 75g Cocoa Powder, 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk, 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract

The Décor:

Freeze dried berries, Desiccated coconut, Crushed Honeycomb, Cocoa powder, Chopped nuts

The Extras:

Small cake cases, Gift Box

The Method:

Melt the butter on a low heat until melted then add in the cocoa powder and mix in well. Add in the sweetened condensed milk and increase heat while stirring constantly for a few minutes until the consistency is smooth. Take off the heat, add in vanilla essence then pour into a bowl. Cover with cling film and refrigerate for a 3-4 hours until mixture is hardened.

Now it’s time for the fun (messy) part. Scoop out a spoonful at a time and roll into 3cm balls (or you can be creative and make them into heart shapes). Roll and decorate with your chosen toppings then place them in the small cake cases. Once all the mixture is used up, place them in the fridge for another couple of hours then put them into a box for giving to your partner.


As you are greeted and shown to your table, you will be handed a glass of sparkling sake each to enjoy

You will then be presented with two sharing platters, a hot and a cold. The hot one will feature the most popular small dishes from Pickled Ginger including Tempura, Gyozas, Kastu and Wakame. The cold one will be a sushi platter with Nigiri, Maki, Temaki and Sashimi

And for the finale, a sweet platter made of Dorayaki, Mochi and Fresh Fruit


This Valentine’s treat will only set you back £40 per couple and will be available all week (12th-18th) if you can’t make it on Valentine’s.
